Frequently asked questions
What are the advantages of SaaS licensing?
The main advantages include lower upfront cost, as customers only pay for the functionality they need, and a simpler purchasing process through operational expenses (OpEx) versus capital expenses (CapEx).
Will anything change in the existing licensing model (Ekahau AI Pro perpetual license and Connect subscription)?
The existing licenses will remain unchanged and will continue to receive all software and firmware updates. You can continue to sell the perpetual license model. You can pitch these new SaaS offerings as the ideal and flexible solution for your customers to add new team members. In addition, perpetual licensing is necessary for those customers who require non-cloud based software and for those customers with available capital expenditure budgets who are looking for a long-term investment.
What is the plan for the global rollout of the SaaS licensing model?
We will evaluate the performance of this pilot program. The global rollout has not been established or scheduled.
What is the plan for the Ekahau Measure license (survey application only) and Ekahau Connect subscription?
There are currently no plans to stop selling the Measure license or the Connect subscription.
Is it available to existing customers or is it only for new customers?
Both new and existing customers can purchase SaaS model licenses.
Can customers have both SaaS and perpetual licenses?
Yes.
What is the difference between the perpetual license and the new SaaS licenses?
With the perpetual license, users can use the Ekahau AI Pro application indefinitely. The SaaS license allows users to use Ekahau's cloud-based applications only for the duration of the subscription. In addition, offline tools that are not cloud-based are only available with the perpetual license.
Is there a migration path from perpetual license to SaaS?
Perpetual license holders should not be recommended to migrate to SaaS. SaaS does not offer offline access to the planning software and renews at a higher price than the Ekahau Connect subscription.
What happens if a customer purchases a Plan or Measure Pro license and wants to upgrade to Software Suite?
There will be a fixed upgrade fee that will be charged for the upgrade.
What happens if a customer purchases a SaaS license and wants to move to perpetual licensing?
We will not have an upgrade path to move to a perpetual license and will work with partners and customers on a case-by-case basis.
Is there a downgrade path for Ekahau Software Suite users who want to upgrade to Plan or Measure Pro?
We do not offer any downgrade options before the end of the subscription period. You will be able to change the license type at the time of renewal.
Can users split a Software Suite license?
No, two or more users cannot share a Software Suite license. Each user must have their own individual license (Ekahau Plan, Measure or Software Suite).
If a user has an original Sidekick, can he/she use the Measure Pro or Software Suite license?
Yes, the Ekahau Sidekick or Sidekick 2 device is required to collect Wi-Fi measurement data and troubleshoot problems. However, Ekahau Sidekick 2 is required to ensure full product functionality.
Where are the cloud servers located?
In the EU and the U.S. We have the alternative perpetual license, which includes a local solution.
What happens if a customer stops paying their subscription? What is Ekahau's data retention policy?
Users cannot access projects if a license renewal is not paid for. We have a 90-day data retention policy. Once the license expires, after 90 days, the data is deleted and cannot be recovered.
